| Arizona's Communities, Cities, Towns and Counties
Arizonans are encouraged to identify legacy projects that will mobilize a community effort. A House Concurrent Memorial [HCM 2006] passed by the Arizona Legislature in April of 2007 encourages each Arizona city, town, county and Indian tribe in the state to appoint a centennial committee. Contact them to see how you can support their efforts.
Schools, Teachers & Educators
Public and charter schools, colleges and universities can help promote Legacy Projects by designing education related to Centennial Legacy Projects. Refer back to this Web site for more information for educational links.
A Melting Pot of Cultures
Indian Tribes and Native American Communities: There are 21 federally recognized American Indian communities, reservations and nations in Arizona. The Commission invites American Indian individuals, organizations, communities, and nations to look at how the Native American culture has influenced Arizona's history an apply for Centennial Legacy Project status.
Spanish and Mexican Influence: Arizona's path to statehood began in 1528 under Spanish rule, when the eight year exploration of Cabeza de Vaca brought European attention to this part of the New World. Today 28.6 percent of Arizona is of Spanish or Mexican decent. Those cultures give Arizona much of its color, music, art and culinary excellence. The Commission invites Arizonans of Spanish or Mexican decent to participate and establish Centennial Legacy Projects.
The migration West: What is your piece of history to preserve for future generations in a Legacy Project? Did your family migrate to Arizona to ranch, farm, or mine? Did they come here because the weather best suited an illness? Were they stationed here on a military base and decided to stay once they were out of the service? Are you a snowbird that decided to migrate permanently?
Currently there are established projects about Arizona's pioneer women, Arizona's ranchers, and a project about early Danish pioneers in the state. Preserve you historical information for future generations by establishing a Centennial Legacy Project.
